Dr Romina Istratii’s talk on ‘Women Scholars of Orthodox Christianity’ series

An episode featuring Dr Romina Istratii has been published on the webinar series “Women Scholars of Orthodox Christianity” organised by the Orthodox Christian Studies Center at Fordham University.

The series aims to highlight the scholarly insights and academic careers of female scholars whose research and writing explore some facet of the history, thought, or culture of Orthodox Christianity. The broadcasts are livestreamed and include time for live audience questions. The event recording is also published on the Center’s YouTube channel.

In this episode, Dr Istratii presented the main arguments of her monograph Adapting Gender and Development to Local Religious Contexts: A Decolonial Approach to Domestic Violence in Ethiopia (Routledge, 2020) and discussed the alternative, more humble, self-aware and exploratory, approach suggested in the book to analysing gender-related issues and domestic violence in non-western epistemological systems and to designing responses that are religio-culturally appropriate.
