Project dldl/ድልድል releases policy brief on the potential of religious teachings and clerics in intimate partner violence responses

On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, our team has released a new policy brief to share our lessons working with religious teachings and clerics in Ethiopia, which we hope can serve as a reference point and guidance for organisations and practitioners who work on responding to intimate partner violence IPV in faith communities.

In line with the aims of project dldl/ድልድል, the policy brief seeks to promote a better contextualisation of IPV responses in religio-cultural worldviews and value systems and to leverage the informal role that religious teachers and clerics often already play in mediating domestic violence situations. The policy brief acknowledges that the effects of religious beliefs and actors can be negative, positive or neutral, depending on context, which requires community-grounded engagement to understand these dynamics and identify opportunities for effective responses.
